Carol Hocknell – Passap Techniques
Mon Jan 18th & Tues Jan 19th 10.00am to 4.00pm

Enjoy two days exploring the Passap Machine. Hints and tips which you may not yet have thought of. This Machine is capable of so much and creates beautiful fabrics. Hands on.

Carol Hocknell - From Start to Finish
Mon Feb 1st to Fri Feb 5th     10.00am to 4.00pm

Suitable for all makes of machine.  This Course has been designed for complete beginners or fairly new knitters,  to help to knit one of their first garments successfully.  Perhaps you have trouble with sizing, pattern knitting or just lack confidence.  Some times it is just a matter of having some uninterrupted time to knit!  Joan Richards, a superb Designer  writes patterns especially for this Course so not only may this be your first garment you may also be wearing a haute couture garment by the end of the week.

Take this opportunity to explore your Passap machine and complete a garment (perhaps for the first time). This Course is planned to help Machine Knitters gain confidence and continue to produce garments they are delighted with.  We do have some machines to work on but anyone able to bring their own machine would be most welcome.  This does have the added advantage of getting to know your own machine and it’s own little quirks!

This Course is an introduction to Knitweave the Audrey Palmer Way. Audrey developed many trimmings using her weaving techniques which are particularly useful for finishing garments in a professional way.  Come and be inspired and find how easy they are to achieve. Erica Thomson – Knitted Wire Jewellery

Day 1 Knitting with wire on a knitting machine is surprisingly easy and Erica will show you her latest clever but simple technique to make your own knitted wire earrings, bracelets and necklaces.

Wire jewellery makes original and unusual hand made presents and is proving popular amongst all ages. All the patterns, wire and jewellery fittings will be available to buy on the day. Iris Bishop – Hands on Workshop
Mon July 19th to Fri July 23rd 10.00am to 4.00pm

An opportunity to work with Iris on an individual basis.  This Course is hands on experimenting with single and double bed fabrics in preparation for textiles and garments. You may wish to work on a garment Iris has designed or you may prefer to experiment more with the fabrics designed by Iris. With Iris’s guidance this will as usual be a most successful and enjoyable Course.   Japanese Machines only.  Single or Double Bed.

Many Machine Knitters own both a knitting machine and DesignaKnit but have not taken the plunge to knit interactively.   This Course is intended to design and then knit interactively for perhaps the first time. Once you have knitted this way you will go on to use the DesignaKnit  programme over and over again.

Another first for Metropolitan.  Susan Guagliumi  is visiting from America .  Susan – Author of Hand Manipulated Stitches.  Her ideal machines are mid gauge, chunky or even the plastic bed machine. What a rare opportunity to exploit these heavier machines but all the techniques are also possible on the standard gauge machine.  Susan’s favourite edgings,  Chinese Knots, Stegosaurous Cables, Twisted Stitches, Mosaic etc. are just some of the unusual techniques you will be able to experiment with. Do not miss this unique experience.
